My heart hurts. I am a white woman living in America. I am a good human. I know a lot of good humans and some really great ones of all races, genders and various lifestyles. If you are one of them, thank you for being you.
I see the depravity of our culture. The way we treat people, or rather, MIStreat people solely based on one characteristic we do not resemble, like or disagree with. It is why I have few friends, refuse to watch the news, and unfollow certain people on social media. It hurts my soul to see or hear the injustices done to others based solely on race, gender, religion, political party and life choices.
When did we forget that we are all human? Why do we forget we are all imperfect? What makes us think we have become the judge and jury? Where is the common courtesy and common decency? Why do we think our way is better based solely on our preference?
What happened to one nation under God? What happened to loving as Christ loved? What happened to basic human decency? What happened to the Golden Rule? What happened?!
I ask because the murder of George Floyd was senseless. I ask because the riots that are causing even more harm to so many others are senseless. I ask because people are mistreated due to their skin tone. I ask because people are sick of it and feel they have no other choice but to fight. I ask because the innocent are affected during the conflict. I ask because it all breaks my heart…
The positive me wishes to see the good in the world and it’s people. The positive me wishes for hope and love to prevail. The positive me wishes we would all begin again, differently. But I feel that is a pipe dream.
Because people are daily being mistreated. People are daily being stereo-typed. People are daily being verbally abused and physically assaulted because some assholes think their way is better. Yeah, I said it.
We call ourselves Americans, but we do not grant the same grace of freedom to others that we have all been graciously given in this country, by God!
Something has to give or we will just continue to tear ourselves apart. Just because they don’t look like me or agree with me doesn’t make them bad. It makes us human. Different isn’t wrong. It’s just different.
We should all strive to not be indifferent to someone just because they are differently human than you or me. We live in the land of the free, the home of the brave. So be brave and allow others to be free. We don’t have to always agree. But we are better than this. So let’s be better. Together.
